About Tim

about-tim-1

PFC Tim Hines Jr. was an amazing father, husband, son, soldier, and friend. Tim and I met in high school at Cincinnati Christian Schools.  Tim was very active in sports and liked playing most sports, but his favorite by far was basketball.  In 2002, Tim and I met our beautiful daughter Lily and in an instant she was a daddy’s girl.  He loved holding her, playing with her, and dancing around the room with her.  At a young age, he even tried to teach her how to shoot a basketball.  Our home and our family was full of love, but Tim wanted to make sure his daughter had the best life possible so he choose to join the military to make a better life for all of us.  He didn’t know what he wanted to do with the rest of his life and we didn’t have the money for college so he decided to join the army and get his college education while serving his country.

Tim enlisted in the Army in 2004 and was sent to Iraq in February of 2005 when we were about 3 months pregnant with our second child.  Tim was an amazing soldier and was always the first up and out to the truck to make sure everything was ready for the day.  He did everything he could to be the best possible soldier and the best father.  He constantly talked about his little girl and the second child he couldn’t wait to meet.  When he found out it was a boy he was ecstatic and couldn’t stop telling everyone.  All he wanted to do was hold his little girl in his arms and meet his new son.

On June 19, 2005 (Father’s Day) Tim was hit by a complicated IED and almost lost his life several times that day.  He fought as hard as he possibly could, enduring surgery after surgery (one to amputate one of his legs) and 218 units of blood.  Tim was transferred to Germany a few days later and soon after that he was transferred to Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C.  Tim slowly but surely battled the odds and endured more and more surgeries and his wounds starting to heal all over his body.   He woke up from his medically induced coma about a week after he was injured and we were able to talk to him. He couldn’t talk to us because of the ventilator, but blinked his eyes and when he was strong enough, used his hands and arms to communicate.

Throughout everything he endured, he kept his spirits up and kept us on our toes with his humor.  He had this spark about him that always made the people around him laugh and just be filled with life.  Every person that came in contact with him throughout his life, was affected in an amazing way.  He knew how to live life to the fullest and not let the little things get you down.  He knew how to make our lives happier through his sense of humor and his love of life.  It broke our hearts when he passed away on July 14, 2005 almost one month after he was injured.  Tim Hines Jr. was a fighter. He fought hard for his country, his family and ultimately, his life.  This website is for your memory Tim.  We loved you, we still love you, and we will never forget you.

He was a Soldier every Sergeant dreams of, a loyal father and husband, and an incredible American.  He will forever be remembered by the Soldiers, friends, and family of the “Guardians”. He brought joy to everyone he came in contact with and will be missed by all.

  3. In situations like these words seem to lack the depth and magnitude of what we truly mean. There’s so many words I could use to describe Tim, but they all seem to fall short. He was such a great person in every aspect of his life. He touched so many lives. Let us never forget the sacrifice he gave but also the inspiring person he was and the joy and laughter he brought to us. Thank you Tim for everything.
